Ms. Pierce's Current Issues class just finished disusing the rise of concussion cases in sports and sports related injuries in our country. The students covered how concussion cases with NFL players have brought out the serious nature of the head injury and how it has changed the way they are cared for both in athletes and in general patients. The class will be soon covering the downfall and comeback of the city of Detroit, including a look at the new facility for the Detroit Red Wings and other businesses. To finish the current unit and to kick off the next one, Kirk Maltby, former Detroit Red Wing, and Phil Pierce, Marketing Manager for the Detroit Red Wings, came to Ms. Pierce's class to talk about Concussions and Sports Related Injuries and the construction of the new hockey arena facility downtown, The District Detroit.

Rochester Alliance of Theatre Students proudly present Chicago as their Fall musical, November 17-20, 2016. Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, the story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the "celebrity criminal." Nightclub sensation Velma murders her philandering husband, but she's got Chicago's slickest lawyer, Billy Flynn, set to defend her. However, when Roxie Hart also winds up in prison for murder, Billy takes on her case as well -- turning her into a media circus of headlines.  Neither woman will be outdone in their fight against each other and the public for fame and celebrity.  This production is rated PG-13.

Showtimes are as follows: Thursday, Friday & Saturday @7:00pm, Saturday Matinee @2:00pm, Sunday @4:00pm.
Tickets are on sale now!  For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the R.A.T.S. web page: www.ratstheatre.org

Please note: The Performing Arts wing is currently under construction, but the Auditorium is OPEN.  Please park in the north lots (adjacent to Walton Blvd.) and enter the building through the main entrance.

RHS LIBRARY ARTICLE DATABASE

Picture
When searching for information on the web, RHS offers our students access to trustworthy, credible resources through subscription-based sites. These sites are online database collections of thousands of published magazines, journals, books, and news sources, both print and multimedia. Each one is provided by either RHS, the Library of Michigan’s Michigan eLibrary, or Rochester Hills Public Library and all are free to our students and families.

Whether your student has a homework assignment, research project, or essay that they’re needing background information for, encourage him or her to search one of the many databases that fits their subject before going to Google or Wikipedia to find reliable, quality information sources. Download a copy of the following page for the online location and password information, and keep it by the computer as a reminder to make it the first place to look!

Highlighted Database: PowerSearch
PowerSeach is like a mini-Google consisting solely of reputable, published articles and books covering all subject areas. The books, all in electronic format, are RHS’s own subscriptions to over 500 reference sources. The journal articles and news sources consist of over 50,000 different publications, all with full access to articles. Every source in PowerSearch allows you to print, download, or email the article, and the full bibliographic citation is already written out to include in a student’s bibliography page.
